Planning your extension

Planning permission. Some single-storey extensions can be built under permitted development rights, while others need planning permission. Rules differ for flats, listed buildings and conservation areas, so check with your local council early.
Building Regulations. Extensions need Building Regulations approval, covering structure, insulation, drainage, fire safety and ventilation.
Party walls. If you build on or near a shared boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may require you to notify your neighbours.
Kitchens and bathrooms. Many extensions include a new kitchen or bathroom – something we can plan as part of the same project.
